YI MEC is an independed voluntary body of dedicated students of Model Engineering College which allows them to actualize their potential, connecting them to the community, the country and the awaiting bright future. This organization aims in involving the students in shaping their country by sowing the seeds of thinking of their nation before self. YI MEC also promotes the students to have their own vision and objectives and have activities which help them attain these objectives.
Among the large number of YI NETs in Cochin spread over a number of schools and colleges, YI MEC plays a major role by active participation in all the actvities of YI.
YI(Young India)is an integral part of CII (Confideration of Indian Industries) and consists of Young Indian entrepreneurs, owner-managers and professionals from various walks of life, with the broad objective of creating a better future for the Indian youth of today as well as create leaders for the India of tomorrow.
Activities
MEC has been one of the very few colleges to attend southern level and national level YI summits which involve sessions by some of India's greatest personalities.
It is also an active participant in large number of activities of YI such as AIDS awareness walk, Tree planting, Visiting Orphanages, Old Age homes, Interactive sessions between students on various topics of importance etc.
YI MEC 2006 has also been successful in conducting the TECHNOPRENEUR, a program with the primary goal of converting Job seekers to Job providers. It involved some great speakers like Kris Gopalakrishnan (Infosys), Suhas Gopinath(Youngest CEO) and others sharing their ideas and promoting entrepreneurship among the students
Also YI MEC 2006 has been successful in promoting computer education among small children through the Mahila Vibhag Anganwadi computer literacy project..
