Bio Medical Association (BMA)

The association is aimed at developing the technical and academic skills of the students of Bio Medical department of MEC. It organizes talks, conferences and events on different fields in and around Bio Medical Engineering.

  1. TALK ON STATISTICAL PARAMETRIC MAPPING AND ITS APPLICATION IN FUNCTIONAL MRI     There was a talk conducted by the biomedical department on Statistical Parametric mapping and its applications in Functional MRI. The talk was by Dr. Sujith from SCT, Trivandrum. The talk was in the morning half followed by demonstration in the afternoon session.
  2. INAUGURATION OF BIOMEDICAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE YEAR 2007

    For the purpose of giving a new head start with newly elected members of association, there was a function held on the 3rd of march 2007. The inauguration was by Dr. Niranjan Khambate Scientist, Sri Chrithra Tirunal Institute of Science and Technology, Biomaterials wing, Trivandrum. Then there was a talk by him on "Biomedical Technology Development:important issues in the Indian Context". Then there was a talk by Dr. Mohanavelu (Scientist, DEBEL, Bangalore) on "Biosensors and Systems based on MEMS Technology.

      After breaking for lunch we continued with the afternoon session consisting of an interactive discussioin with the ex-MECians.

  3. SEMINAR ON RECENT TRENDS IN BIOMECHANICS 

      A talk was arranged by the Biomedical Department on the above department on 23rd and 24th march 2006.The first speaker was Dr. Lazar Chandy, Department of Orthopedics, Lakeshore Hospital and the topics of speech was "Biomechanics of bone and fracture management". The next to speak was Dr. K V Menon, Department of Orthopedics, AIMS. He talked about "Bone substitution"The final speaker for the first day session was P K Ranjith, Department of Orthopedics, EMC. He discussed about "Biomechanics of joint replacement"

     The next day began with a talk by Dr. Nandakumar, Department of Ship Technology, CUSAT, Kochi. He dealt with "Finite Element Method and its application in Biomechanics". The 2 day session ended with a talk by Dr. Jacob Thomas V, Principal, College of Engineering, Kottarakkara on "Biomechanics of plantar ulcers in diabetic neuropathy and its prevention"

  4. EMERGING TRENDS IN MEDICAL IMAGING AND ITS APPLICATION  

    There was a talk on 20th and 21st April 2006 on the above mentioned topic. It consisted of 6 sessions. The first session began with a talk on "Molecular Imaging" by Dr. N.Kumaravel, Department of Electronics and communication, Anna University, Chennai. After lunch break the second session began with a talk on "3D and 4D ultrasound Technology and its applications" by Dr. Riji Mathew Choorakuttil, M.D, DNB, Amma Scan and LAB, Cochin and Mr. Sreenath, Wipro Technologies.                         The next day started with a talk by DR. N. Kumaravel again on "Recent Areas of Research in Medical Image Processing". The 5th session consisted of a talk by Dr. Amel Antony, MD DNB MNAMS, Consultant Radiologist and Imageologist, Institute of Radiology and Imaging scientist (IRIS) , Kochi on " Recent advancements in CT Imaging technology and clinical applications. The semiar concluded with a talk on "Recent advancements in MRI" by Dr. D Anilkumar MD DNB, Consultant Radiologist, Institute of radiology and imaging sciences (IRIS), Kochi

  5. TALK ON "NEW TRENDS IN BIOMEDICAL ENGG"

      Biomedical Association of MEC arranged a technical talk on 27th Aug 2003. Dr. Megha Singh, Professor, IIT, Madras delivered a talk on "New Trends in Biomedical Engg."

    Mr. Deepak A.G, Secretary, BMA, MEC welcomed the gathering. Prof. Jyothi John Principal, MEC Presided over the function. The technical session was very informative; Prof. Singh familiarized the students with the advances in the field of Biomedical Engg.

    In addition to this he reminded the students of their importance in the present scenario. He gave valuable guidelines for higher education also.

    Dr. Susamma Chacko, Principal, CE, Kallooppara was also present on the occasion. Mr. Binu Eapen of Seventh semester Biomedical Engg. Proposed the vote of thanks.

  6. BECON-'97 

    BECON-'97, National conference on advances in Biomedical Engg. and product exhibition was held at Model Engg. College, Kochi, from 4th to 6th Sept. 1997.

  2. With these objectives in mind Biomedical Engg. Dept. of MEC took up the responsibility of organizing BECON.The following eminent personalities were members of the advisory committee.

    Eminent personalities across the country presented papers and shared their views in the conference.New emerging trends were discussed with great enthusiasm. Several papers were presented in the following areas.
